Bobs & LoLo debuts at Arden
They may be a new face at the Arden Theatre, but Bobs & LoLo have been performing professionally since 2003.
Their target audience is children two years and over who like music, movement and make believe says Robin Hardy (Bobs). Her partner is Lorraine Pond (LoLo).
The British Columbia based duo grew up in Nanaimo and met at a Girl Guide camp. They clicked and have been inseparable since.
Hardy and Pond attended Dover Bay Secondary School singing in the same a cappella group and playing basketball together.
Even though Hardy studied honours linguistics at the University of Victoria while Pond took kinesiology and sport medicine at the University of British Columbia, they kept in touch.
After graduation Pond was working for the Vancouver Aquarium and Hardy was using music in a teaching capacity. Invited to throw a few children’s songs together for a benefit concert, they novice singers were surprised that people started asking for a CD.
“We borrowed money from our parents and produced our first CD Sea Notes. We live by the ocean so it was just natural. It was so successful, we paid them back in six months,” Hardy said.
Their stage names are actually a derivative of their real names. Robyn Hardy was nicknamed Bobs by friends in high school and Lorraine Pond was known as LoLo.
They’ve come a long way and today, they have six CDs under their belt, a DVD and won numerous awards. Bobs & LoLo music videos have aired on Treehouse TV across Canada and on Disney Junior across the United States.
Dirty Feet, their latest release, has been nominated for a Juno. It is their fourth Juno nomination.
Bobs & LoLo will perform at the Arden Theatre on Sunday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. Accompanying them is guitarist Mario Vaira.
Tickets are adults $18, children $15. Call 780-459-1542 or at ticketmaster.ca.
