A field trip like no other

Some girls have a razor sharp edge that cuts deep. And it’s girls on the outside that endure the bloodletting.

In Northern Light Theatre’s production Flora & Fauna’s Field Trip (with Fleurette), now running at ATB Financial Arts Barn until Jan. 23, two nine-year-old girls form The Naturelles, a club-like sanctuary for bullied outsiders.

The fabulous cross-dressing actors Trevor Schmidt (also Northern Light’s artistic director), and Darrin Hagen star as two best friends Flora and Fauna.

Schmidt and Hagen have a decade-long creative partnership as Guys in Disguise. Playing off each other’s creative juices, they’ve presented experimental shows that included Tranne of Green Gables, BitchSlap!, Dragula and Two Queens and a Joker to name a few.

And in Flora & Fauna’s Field Trip, they’ve added L'UniThéâtre's Brian Dooley as their third.

Inspired by a trip to the Yukon, the duo discovered that the vast landscape was packed with nature’s flora and fauna. They documented the visit and a new play was created.

Tickets are $23 to $25.
