Singer-songwriter Heather Hutchison and one of St. Albert’s homegrown talents returns to her hometown for an acoustic performance of her new EP release Where the Ocean Meets the Sand.

The five-song EP is Hutchison’s third release and chronicles the time she spent living in Peru. It compiles songs that tell stories of being lost and finding one’s self in small ways.

Blind since birth, Heather’s songwriting and soulful voice have always brought a unique perspective to music. Where the Ocean Meets the Sand is a look at her life in Peru and the struggles she faced upon her return to Canada.

Hutchison’s performance is tonight at La Crema CaffĂ© at 7 p.m. Her husband, guitarist Jordan Mann, also performs at this evening of songs and stories. Tickets are $10 at the door.

St. Albert’s Amplify Youth Festival is looking for youth and adult volunteers to fill afternoon and evening shifts over the two-day arts event running Oct. 16 and 17 at the Enjoy Centre.

Through its workshops and performing spaces, Amplify will offer henna art, special F/X makeup, hip-hop dance, improv, filmmaking and more.

Volunteers are a big part of a festival’s success helping to man the concession, coat check, workshops, watching over artist hospitality and assisting in supervising evening concerts.

Volunteers are encouraged to accept two shifts. Anyone over 18 will need to receive a criminal record check and a vulnerable sector check to ensure the safety of all youth.
