The Arden Theatre has received a massive response to astronaut Chris Hadfield’s evening debut on Oct. 25.

Due to the high numbers wishing to attend, organizers have added a second afternoon show at 1 p.m.

Colonel Chris Hadfield, one of the few earthlings to travel beyond the clouds, is a renaissance man of the 21st century – astronaut, commander, author, musician and speaker.

Hadfield will release Off Planet, an awaited new album of guitar and vocal tracks he recorded while manning the International Space Station.

Tickets are $100 or $130 (includes a copy of An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth). They are available at 780-459-1542 or online at ticketmaster.ca.

It is two years and counting since Blue Sky Miners worked to unearth their heady brand of folk rock. With five members originally from Victoria to Moncton, they have developed a strong partnership of cross-country grooves.

Blue Sky Miners just released their new single Cold Water paralleling a 15-stop tour from Sointula, British Columbia to Toronto.

The band, composed of vocalists Jena Gogo and Jay Mitchell along with guitarist Eric Duquette, bassist Mark Lavoie and drummer Stefan Hegerat, hit Edmonton venue On The Rocks Aug. 23 starting at 9 p.m.

What words come to mind when thinking about the Latin culture? Romantic? Vibrant? Sensual?

It's all that and more as the sixth annual Edmonton Latin Festival shimmies its way across Churchill Square today and tomorrow.

One of the hottest festivals in the region, it promotes the Latin-speaking culture through savoury authentic dishes, cooling beer selections, and two days of vibrant singing and dancing.

In this great big family get-together, organizers are hosting a zumbathon, DJ Latin dance party and dance showcases of Cuban fusion, reggaeton, salsa, bachata and mambo.

See for yourself top international recording artists Siglo 21 from Puerto Rico and Rafael Energia from the Dominican Republic sharing the stage with Samba Caliente, a spirited dance company with Brazilian roots and Marena, a Columbian folkloric ensemble.

The festival site is open from noon to 11 p.m. Free admission. For more information visit edmontonlatinfestival.com.
