The 10th annual Cappies came to a close with a gala presentation at the Citadel's Maclab Theatre on June 11.
Regional high school students dressed in their snappiest attire united to perform a few numbers and receive awards for their theatrical achievements.
Every area from marketing, publicity, special effects, hair and makeup, sound, lighting and costumes to choreography, acting, singing, dancing and even critiquing student productions received a special nod.
St. Albert Catholic High blew away the competition winning the category for outstanding performance of a play with playwright Vern Thiessen's VIMY. In this touching show set at the First World War's battlefields, four soldiers reflect on their lives while a young nurse tends their wounds.
St. Albert High also scooped up best ensemble in a play while student Jarrod Sokul received a nod for lighting. The best stage management and crew award went to Sarah Jackson, Allysha Gabat, Maggie Kelly, and the Skyhawk Crew.
Over at Bellerose Composite High, Ben Travers was acclaimed as lead actor in the musical Catch Me If You Can while Noah Zimmerman nabbed best supporting actor for the same production.
And the Bellerose Orchestra, with its long history of excellence, claimed the award for best orchestra.
