The Internet is turning into a 21st century form of lightning in a bottle creating instantaneous performances and massive audiences at the stroke of a keyboard.
Just five months ago post-hardcore band I Prevail went pop and threw their video version of Taylor Swift’s Blank Space on YouTube.
Swift had recorded Blank Space on her 1989 album and with her great voice and business savvy it reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top 100.
In a moment of on-the-spot fame, the lesser-known I Prevail spiked to an almost unimaginable 10,258,300 views. They also delivered one of the most virally shared performances on Spotify with three million streams.
The Michigan-based band issued an EP, Heart Vs. Mind, in December, 2014 and it peaked at No. 1 on the iTunes Rock Album chart while Blank Space rose to No. 1 on the iTunes Rock Singles chart.
The band is now on a 20-stop Massive Addictive Tour providing support for Amaranthe. Sunday night they perform at the Starlite Room. Tickets are $25 to $28 at this 18-plus show. Doors at 8 p.m.
