Most of what we hear about Fort McMurray is oil related – the good and bad. However playwright Matthew MacKenzie's play Bust looks at the aftermath of the fire and how it affects two families.

The clever fast-paced script touches on subjects we are all familiar with: high salaries, lavish lifestyles and over-consumption.

Through the lens of two families, MacKenzie examines Alberta's boom and bust economy and questions what really matters – wealth and accessories or family and love.

Directed by Bradley Moss, Bust stars Lora Brovold, Brandon Coffey, Louise Lambert and Christopher Schultz.

Bust runs until Sunday, Feb. 26 at Theatre Network, Live at the Roxy, 8529 Gateway Blvd. Tickets are $15 to $30. Call 780-453-2440 or visit [email protected].

St. Albert singer-songwriter Doug Hoyer is an infrequent guest in our landscape since he moved to Athens, Ga. in 2015.

The acoustic pop-rock-folk artist just released his fourth album, Stepping Stone, on the Edmonton label Mangled Tapes.

The 10 tracks are reminiscences of his life and three songs – Old Ugly House, Ode to Shows, and A Link to the Past – are available for a listen at doughoyer.bandcamp.com.

Join Hoyer for an album performance at the Empress Ale House, 9912 Whyte Ave. on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 4 p.m. Admission is free.
