When Joe Piccolo plays, you are in the presence of a blues champ.

Piccolo, who plays this afternoon at Mark Ammar’s popular jam sessions, grew up not too far from Windsor. Just a stone’s throw away, the Detroit music scene spawned the Motown Sound and the royalty of blues and rock.

Piccolo’s musical style and lively vocals are entrenched in the history of Motor City Blues and R&B tradition and he’s played with some of the biggest names in show business.

Fronting and playing tenor sax along such Detroit luminaries Sir Mack Rick (Mustang Sally) and international blues legend Lazy Lester, Chicago Peter and Alberta Adams, Piccolo honed a craft into his own style.

Here in the capital region, Piccolo fronted the Swing Cats and Hot Cottage generating popularity with his full-throttle energy and creative style.

Ammar’s jam session starts at 4 p.m. at LB’s Pub and Grill. No cover.

It’s the All Aboard Weekend at Fort Edmonton Park, a history of transportation and how it developed over hundreds of years.

The Fort’s experts will touch on trains, boats, bicycles, airplanes and street cars to name a few.

The transportation event runs July 15 and 16. Admission is $20 to $26 or a family rate (two adults and four children) for $95. Visit fortedmontonpark.ca.
