The Morinville Community Cultural Centre has added pub nights to its eclectic roster of entertainment.

The next Silver Shoes Pub Night on Thursday features St. Albert performers Peter and Mary with their singular brand of comedy and peppy music.

“To break things up we'll have some magic and Mary's ventriloquism,” says Peter Jensen.

Martha McHaggis, an elderly Scottish puppet with set views, enjoys dishing out her opinions sitting on Mary's knees.

“She's known to be politically incorrect, but she seems to get away with it and crowds love her,” Jensen notes.

“It's going to be a great night for the whole community. It's nights like this that bring people and communities together.

A lot has happened during the last decade since Edmonton Metropolitan Chorus launched a decade ago.

Founding artistic director David Garber has moulded a rag-tag variety of amateur, semi-professional and professional singers into one of the most acclaimed groups in the greater Edmonton area.

In the past decade they have paid tribute to the '60s, Bernstein's brilliance, the Fab Four and new age music. In addition, the exciting pulse of African music, lively Celtic rhythms and tropical sounds of the Caribbean were blended into their exciting cocktail.

Perhaps one of the highlights was a Nov. 2013 musical cry to abolish child slavery, almost a prophetic vision of what was to come.

On Sunday, May 17 the choir finishes the season with Ten Years of Our lives at First Presbyterian Church, 10025 105 St. It starts at 3 p.m.

The concert includes favourite repertoire ranging from folk songs, spirituals and medleys to classical, Broadway hits and sacred.

Tickets range from $5 to $15. Call 780-420-1757 or purchase online at tixonthesquare.ca.
