In its Arden debut, the Canadian dance troupe recreates the stunning and dramatic love story of two souls who commit the ultimate sacrifice to be free.

BJ’s mission is to introduce the classics to cities and towns, and Tchaikovsky’s score is one of the most rousing in the repertoire.

Artistic director Bengt Jörgen has taken the liberty of setting Swan Lake at the Fortress of Louisbourg, an inspiration for designer Robert Doyle’s 18th century costumes.

Swan Lake runs on Friday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $68 adults, $55 for children and students. Call 780-459-1542 or go online to ticketmaster.ca.

As one of the hottest dance companies in the world, BalletBoyz’s trademark is athletic dancing and visceral story lines.

Alberta Ballet hosts this incredible contemporary powerhouse on Feb. 24 and 25 at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium.

The all-male dance troupe from London, England will perform a double bill titled Life: Rabbit and Fiction.

Internationally acclaimed choreographer Javier de Frutos and Pontus Lidberg have crafted a stunning display of superior athleticism, sensitivity and raw storytelling in a conversation about life and death.

Tickets range from $24 to $124. Visit albertaballet50.com.

In its fifth season, the Edmonton-based Citie Ballet is favoured with Reflections, an umbrella title for the debut of two new works.

The show launches with Citie’s choreographer Kiera Keglowitsch’s On the Edge, a sensitive commentary on the impact of melting glaciers.

Following is former Alberta ballet principal Yukichi Hattori’s Ghosts, a short work that pushes the movement envelope and is underscored with an electronic sound.

Reflections three performances are Feb. 24 to 26 at Timms Centre for the Arts, 87 Ave. and 112 St. Tickets are available at citieballet.ca.

It’s time to enjoy Mardi Gras Edmonton-style as Vinok Worldance mounts their annual carnival party on Saturday, Feb. 25 at Chateau Louis Conference Centre.

Although the party is just a few day shy of Fat Tuesday, Feb. 28, the official carnival start, there will be plenty of Louisiana style delectables including gumbo, jambalaya, Po’ boy sandwiches and sweet beignets.

Vinok dancers kick it up a notch with improvised street dancing and N’awlins tunes form Cajun, African and Spanish cultures.

Tickets are $40 to $85. Call 780-454-3739.
