Bellerose Composite High School’s musical production of Catch Me If You Can and St. Albert Catholic High Schools dramatic performance of VIMY were two of the strongest contenders nominated for the 2016-2017 Cappies.
Catch Me If You Can was given the nod in 10 categories primarily for acting while St. Albert Catholic High received eight nominations mainly in the craft-production categories.
The Cappies is a writing and awards program that trains high school theatre students to be critical thinkers and expert writers. Student theatre critics attend student-based productions for review purposes. Reviews are subsequently published in a local newspaper.
More than 250 students were nominated in 42 categories after their peers from 22 area high schools wrote reviews printed in the Edmonton Journal.
Winners will be declared at the Cappies Gala on Sunday, June 11 at the Citadel Theatre.
