Morinville is one of the prettiest towns in the province and the proof is in the poseys, and the roses, and the daffodils.
Communities in Bloom judges visited the town last week to take a gander at the botanical beauty as part of its annual contest. The volunteer-run program is administered by Alberta Recreation and Parks Association and works to cultivate community involvement in making healthier and more vibrant public spaces.
This is not the first time that Morinville has participated in the friendly competition, nor will it be the last.
“It’s really important. It gives us the ability to showcase Morinville and show some of the great initiatives and projects that we’re working on that benefit the community,” said Felicity Bergmann, communication co-ordinator with the town.
The judges will have travelled to 27 communities across the province before the end of the month. At each stop, they visit a number of local destinations and make evaluations based on criteria including tidiness, environmental action, heritage conservation, and urban forestry. Each community is then assigned a bloom rating, allowing it to be ranked among all of the entrants. The results of the contest will be unveiled at the provincial awards ceremony held on Saturday Sept. 23 in Lacombe.
While in town, the judges also tagged along for the judging of Morinville’s Best Garden competition where private residences vied against each other for botanical glory.
