Once upon a time in the not-so-distant past, Aslynn Chance still lived in St. Albert and had a regular job. One day, she and her husband Bronson, woke up and decided to make a change. And a big change they did make.
They packed up their bags, put their kids in their car seats and moved their entire lives all the way south to California. There they stopped and found a home to live in.
It's a great story, but the best part comes in the second act. Once she settled in, Chance decided to become an author. She'd started writing when she was 12 anyway, but stopped for many years. She decided she was finally going to be serious about it.
And that's exactly what she did. She wrote a book and got it published. Now, she's touring America to promote it and revelling in every little detail of how she dreamed a dream and made it real.
The switch
A few years ago she and her husband realized they weren't satisfied with things so they planned to switch it up. He suggested she pick up a hobby. And thus her past interest in writing was reborn.
"I started writing on my computer and kept it hidden for probably a good six months. I had the book three-quarters written. My husband read it and thought I had downloaded something. He said, 'You should get this published', so we started on this journey."
She describes The Play Date as "a romantic thriller. It's going to be part of a series called The Chronicles of Drummond Media."
The sequel entitled The Commitment is already prepping to hit the printed page and she's already working on the second sequel called The Unexpected. That one is coming right along soon too.
"It's about a woman named Kenna Drummond who has had an extremely rough, violent past. She's on a journey of self-discovery and she meets a man that's the typical bad boy singer and performer. They end up getting together on a kids' play date, and romance ensues from there. It's a book about their journey."
Drummond works hard both as a single mom and as a struggling but successful businesswoman. The romantic entanglement leads to the obvious physical thrills but also gives her a taste of fame. At the same time as she experiences these high points, she must also fight another man who threatens to tear apart her family, her business and everything else that she has achieved in her life.
Chance admits that there are certain elements of the storyline that she borrowed from her own life, but she doesn't specify which. If you read the background on her website, it should become apparent that she's had her fair share of setbacks on the road to self-discovery and self-realization.
She once had herself an agent who made many promises, none of which ever materialized. They spent months living in a shabby motel before she had to take the reins back and set things in motion once again.
She hasn't regretted the boldness of her actions. Chance's website also mentions the possibility of a movie deal but at least she has more experience in trusting the whispers of fame and fortune promised by those "in the industry."
Still, she's forging ahead on her new path with all her energy.
"Part of the whole family's new change is to live life, follow your dreams and don't necessarily worry about what the right thing to do is. Just go for it."
The Play Date - The Chronicles of Drummond Media clocks in at 420 pages. It's selling for $17.99 on the author's website at www.aslynnchance.com. A Kindle version is also available at www.amazon.com.
