The St. Albert Potters Guild has really gone to pot lately … teapots that is.
The guild’s upcoming spring sale will have the usual assortment of handmade wheeled and hand-thrown pots of all shapes and sizes but there will be a particularly fine selection of teapots.
Marg Belec, representative of the St. Albert Potters Guild and co-ordinator of the spring sale, can’t wait for the big day.
“I look forward to it every year,” she said, then sighed sarcastically, “I don’t look forward to all the work. It’s a big job putting it on.”
She said that she has been busy preparing her pieces since the Country Craft Fair wrapped up.
“After that one’s over, I get back into thinking about the spring sale. The guild really only has the one sale a year that belongs to us. This is it. This is the biggie for us,” she said.
She hopes to have a lot of unique teapots, and those who like the group’s Facebook page can see some early samples of what’s to come. Unusual and whimsical are the first words that come to mind when looking at the work.
“I was trying to get people to think outside the box so we can have some teapots that are not necessarily functional but more sculptural,” she said. “They might not be useful as teapots but they could be artistic pieces. We will have lots of functional ones there too.”
The show takes place at St. Albert Place starting on Thursday, May 2 to coincide with the first Art Walk of the season. It ends on Saturday, May 4.
