Mary Lambert hosts kids’ pajama parties without the slumber. And some children are so stoked they sing and dance through the short programs.

The beloved children’s entertainer is a celebrity to the munchkin ranks as she belts out engaging songs about roosters or firemen or circuses. That’s just the warm-up.

After more than two decades in the business, Lambert has released 11 CDs and two live DVDs. Bringing her wealth of experience and humour to St. Albert, Lambert is stepping into the limelight at the Arden Theatre on Thursday, Oct. 23 with her warm and giggly Pajama Party.

“Everyone should come dressed in their pajamas – even Mom and Dad. And bring a teddy bear and a blanket,” Lambert suggests.

“By wearing a pajama and coming to the theatre in a pajama, you get excited and you feel more involved. And if parents wear a pajama and get involved, it makes it more fun for the kids.”

Forgoing a guitar, the mother of four instead sings original music and uses a trunk full of costumes and props – articles such as a housecoat, an ugly duckling costume or a bed cap – whatever fits the mood.

Although Lambert is now a young grandmother of two, she still has that bubbly personality and lovely voice that gave her a foothold in the Ontario market back in 1993.

She first became a children’s celebrity in Bracebridge after a friend overheard Lambert singing to her young children at bedtime. They formed Jam Sandwich, a company that released two CDs.

But in 1995 Lambert moved to Kingston and kick-started a solo career marketing an additional nine albums. Boasting more than 3,000 shows on her website, the two-time Juno nominee keeps a pulse on what her primary audience enjoys.

“The interesting thing is that a lot of the stuff I used to enjoy as a kid is still the same kind of music kids today enjoy. You can be creative and do the stuff you used to do and the kids will enjoy it just as much.

Costumed in her special pair of pink pjs, Lambert will lead Pajama Party with cute songs that tell a story such as Blankie, Brush Your Teeth and Belly Button Peek-A-Boo.
