A procession will start at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 271 at 6 Taché Street at 10:30 a.m. It will go up Taché to Sir Winston Churchill Avenue and then down St. Anne Street, stopping in front of the cenotaph. These roads will be closed during this time to accommodate the procession.

A service will then proceed, including the laying of wreaths and the traditional observance of a moment of silence.

St. Albert Place

Starting between 11:30 to 11:45 a.m., right after the ceremony at the cenotaph, the public is encouraged to stop by the atrium of St. Albert Place to commemorate Aboriginal Veterans Remembrance Day. There, artifacts from the Michif Cultural and Resource Institute will be on display, including uniforms.

Former city councillor Carol Watamaniuk will lead the attendees through a program that will start with a prayer from former senator and founder of the Michif, the Honourable Dr. Thelma Chalifoux. Mayor Nolan Crouse, MLA Ken Allred and MP Brent Rathgeber will give speeches before Chalifoux and Andy Michaelson offer their thoughts and remembrances of the 49th and 50th regiments becoming the Loyal Edmonton Regiment.

Special guest, St. Albert native Judy Iseke, will also speak. She is the niece of featured honouree, Dorothy Chartrand, the subject of Iseke's film A Living History of Métis Families. That will be screened at the Musée Héritage Museum afterwards. Coffee, tea and bannock will also be served.

Visitors there can see more artifacts including a WWII battle dress jacket and the muster roll parchment that includes the names of all the St. Albert residents who participated in the 1885 Rebellion, the Boer War and both World Wars.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday. Call 780-459-1528 or visit www.museeheritage.ca for more information.
