VASA Painting for the Food Bank raises funds for good cause

Donated art and crafts are on sale for $50 or less at St. Albert’s Visual Arts Studio Association

The donating game comes in many shapes, sizes and colours. For St. Albert’s Visual Arts Studio Association (VASA) it’s about selling stunning artwork at heavily discounted prices.

VASA hosts its second annual Painting for the Food Bank, whereby original paintings donated by well-known St. Albert artists will be sold in support of St. Albert Food Bank.

Every piece of wall art and crafts located in the art gallery’s Studio #9 is priced at $50 or less. Considering most of the pieces can sell for several hundred dollars or more, the sale is a bargain for art lovers and a huge benefit to the food bank.

“This is a golden opportunity for people to purchase an original work of art for their home or as a gift for a family member or close friend at an affordable price while helping our food bank meet the needs of those relying on them,” said co-organizer Glen Wood.

In addition to Wood, a partial list of the talented artists donating their works are Bruce Allen, Bruce Thompson, Carol Donald, Carol Johnson, Chris Hrynyk, Connie Osgood, Doris Charest, Heather Howard, Miles Constable, Pat Trudeau, Peg McPherson, Rayma Peterson and Sharon Abrams.

The artwork ranges from oils, acrylics and watercolours to jewelry, felted crafts and paper art.

Wood credits Connie Osgood and her giving personality for kickstarting the event in 2023.

“When VASA first started, its vision was to help artists sell their paintings. Connie is a very selfless and motivated person who always gives of her time and resources. And she felt very strongly about giving back to the community. It’s a passion for her. Last year she tried the fundraiser, and it went over very well.” Wood said.

In its inaugural year, the gallery donated $810 to the food bank. This year, with more individuals aware of the project, artists hope for a complete sellout.

Painting for the Food Bank sales start Tuesday, Nov. 26 and run until the year’s end or until all donated stock is sold. VASA is located at 25 Sir Winston Churchill Ave.
