Strolling through St. Albert's gallery walk

View diverse styles and subject matter at Bookstore on Perron, VASA and Art Gallery of St. Albert on Aug. 7

St. Albert’s Gallery Walk for August brings together a compelling lineup that invites visitors to reflect on visual stories that shape our community.

The walk, which encompasses The Bookstore on Perron, Visual Arts Studio Association (VASA) and Art Gallery of St. Albert, showcases the city’s galleries' commitment to promoting meaningful, regional art.

Bookstore on Perron

Throughout the month of August, the bookstore gallery will showcase the work of four artists from St. Albert Painters Guild. While the four artists are partial to nature, their styles and choices of subject matter vary.

For three decades, Gail Seeman has used her artist’s creativity to develop a serene style using landscapes and seascapes as her subject matter. Her paintings create a calming effect and often evoke within the viewer past experiences of the same nature that bubble with a childlike innocence.

Francoise Noel is a visual artist with a series of eclectic interests that she pours into her art. For years she pursued photography as a hobby using it to inspire paintings of charming florals, birds, landscapes, abstracts, old cars and architecture. Primarily a watercolourist, she also paints using gouache, ink, graphite and coloured pencil.

Elizabeth Hurley instead chooses to experiment with watercolour, acrylic, mixed media, collage, coloured pencil and drawing media. An adventurous artist, she describes the creative process as “a wonderful exploration of self, nature and the world around us.”

Susan Miller is known for her diverse artistic practices that include painting, drawing and mixed media. She draws inspiration from nature and her surroundings, employing various traditional and modern approaches.

The gallery hosts a reception for the artists on Thursday, Aug 7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

VASA

In addition, Visual Arts Studio Association (VASA) is also hosting a reception for its August exhibition. It is jointly shared by two artists – How Are You by Eunju park and Unnatural Order by Dustin Coulson.

Park, who has also showcased her art at Art Gallery of St. Albert, is a Korean letter abstract collage artist. While Park explores her heritage through abstract collage, she infuses her work with uplifting messages.

Instead, Coulson’s art is a contemplation on the human condition and the impact humans have on nature. Out of respect for the land, he crafts each piece using natural objects that are ethically harvested.

Art Gallery of St. Albert

The Art Gallery of St. Albert continues to showcase master potter Diane Gwilliam’s Calm to Chaos, a whimsical exhibition of birds, and Nicholas Hertz’s A Mirror with No Reflection, a playful exhibition of manipulated photos and images.

In an added bonus, free entertainment via the Plaza Series will be featured at St. Albert Place. St. Albert’s own Cristian De La Luna will perform two sets of Latin songs and dance.

St. Albert Gallery Walk takes place Thursday, Aug. 7 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
