Book lovers will soon have a chance to meet and hear from authors at a St. Albert bookstore.
Bailey Books, which has been a part of the St. Albert community since 2002, will host several readings and book signings, starting in October. The first will feature local author Donna Milward, who has written a number of fantasy and mythological novels over the last decade.
Milward said she is looking forward to the event.
“I’m a bit nervous, but excited,” Milward said. “I just want everyone to enjoy it. I intend to be absolutely present for it, and just soak it all in.”
Amid the excitement of being asked to participate in the Bailey Books meet and greet, Milward reflected on the past.
“I’ve been writing since I learned to read as a child,” said Milward. “I had a journal in first grade, and wrote a 'book' about the Edmund Fitzgerald in second grade. I’ve just always loved writing, and I had a vivid imagination to go along with that desire.”
Bailey Books has been looking for ways to engage with the community, and author meet and greets were near the top of the list. So was asking Donna Milward to be a featured author. When told about her being one of the first people they thought of, Milward was ecstatic.
“I'm so grateful, and it’s so humbling to think that someone cares enough about my work to offer this opportunity,” said Milward.
Milward will most likely read from her most recent novel, Elaina’s Fate, which is available at Bailey Books. She also teased that she may be bringing something unpublished to read at the event.
The book reading and book signing will take place from 1-3 p.m. at Bailey Books on Saturday, Oct. 19.
