Art Walk is back after a one-year absence. But it’s been rebranded as St. Albert Gallery Walk with rotating artists sharing their creativity.
Starting May 1, it will run the first Thursday of every month until Sept. 4.
“People were asking about it. So, Andrew Raczynski, Miles Constable and Leah Loudan decided to pull something together. It climbed up on us real fast, but in six weeks, we pulled together a website, a poster and planned the events,” said Kimberly Smith, president of Visual Arts Studio Association (VASA).
Artists will set up at three locations: VASA, The Bookstore on Perron and St. Albert Art Gallery (AGSA). Smith encourages visitors to take a leisurely stroll throughout St. Albert’s downtown and absorb the variety of painting styles.
She suggests beginning the tour at VASA where seven artists from Big Lake Studios kick-start the event. The seven artists include Doris Charest, Ross Schell, Sandy Dewar, Carol Donald, Carol Pylpow, Jan Peters and Bruce Thompson. Charet will also perform a live painting session.
From VASA, a quick stroll to The Bookstore on Perron introduces four of St. Albert Painters Guild finest artists. Al Anderson, Janet Bo-Lassen, Glen Hamilton and Jody Mathon all paint landscapes, yet their materials and techniques are vastly different.
Just a few steps north to St. Albert Art Gallery is Edith Chu’s Sweet & Sour Memories exhibition. Chu’s delicate watercolours explore a childhood growing up in a family-owned restaurant.
“It’s a fabulous event. It’s a chance to stroll throughout the downtown and see a variety of artists that change every month,” said Loudan, AGSA director. “It’s also a good opportunity to share what we have and learn more about art practices from local artists.
