2110 SA Smoker 1835 km — BIG SMOKE — Doug Manuel (in grey) of Rusty’s Equipment and General Hauling uses a remote-control crane (the control box was on his belt) to lift what is reputedly Canada’s largest meat smoker into position near Paddy’s Pub on St. Albert Trail on Oct. 9. Pub owner Ken Shebib said he commissioned the 32-foot-long device in 2016 for another business in Edmonton but never really used it there, and recently decided to move it to St. Albert. It cost $7,000 – much less than the $40,000 he’d need for a commercial model – and was made from a 1970s propane tank. He hoped to use it to cook brisket, hogs, and other meats.
