March 5 @ 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
The Canadian history we weren’t taught in school: The KAIROS Blanket Exercise was developed in response to the 1996 Report of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples – which recommended education on Canadian-Indigenous history as one of the key steps to reconciliation. The Blanket Exercise covers over 500 years of history in a one-and-a-half hour participatory workshop. It is an interactive learning program that teaches Indigenous rights history by symbolizing the encroachment of European settlers and other abuses that this continent’s Aboriginals have experienced and are experiencing. Everyone is welcome. Monday, March 5 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Youth under the age of 16 should be accompanied by an adult. St. Albert United Church, 20 Green Grove Drive, St. Albert. To register, call Marilyn McSporran directly at 780-990-5276. Sessions will be cancelled if registration is fewer than 15. Bring a blanket suitable for laying on the floor, that you are willing to have people step on.
