TORONTO — “Sort Of” star Bilal Baig is bringing new stories to the stage.

Two plays by the creator of the acclaimed CBC Gem dramedy are part of the upcoming 2025/2026 season for Buddies in Bad Times Theatre.

The Toronto theatre describes “Kainchee Lagaa + Jhooti: The Begging Brown Bitch Plays” as two unflinching stories of brown trans women caught between worlds.

Baig's CBC hit ended in 2023 after three seasons that focused on a gender-expansive Torontonian juggling a floundering career and love life.

The new works are described as about “lying, sex, and rebirthing oneself: over and over and over again.”

They make their world premiere in April 2026 as a co-production by A House of Beida and Buddies, a downtown theatre dedicated to amplifying and developing queer stories for the stage.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published June 24, 2025.
