The election of Donald Trump has unleashed a fury in the Democratic Party, and in the far Left in general, that is without precedent in recent American political history. A small example: during the third quarter of the Super Bowl, my daughter (a loyal Patriots supporter) posted on her Facebook account “Believe in Brady,” a belief that ended up being well placed. However, no sooner had she posted this than an acquaintance replied: “How can you cheer for Trump’s golfing partner?” Now, as far as I know, Donald Trump did not suit up for the Patriots for the game, he is not currently listed on their roster, and he wasn’t even in the stadium. Yet, somehow, even a football game got converted into a political battle.
I am seeing this trend developing with a lot of people – people who are disowning their friends, and even their own family members, because of some activity that may, in some tortured logic, have a strange connection to Donald Trump. I wonder how far away we are from this stupidity expanding to cover every conceivable topic. For example, Donald Trump goes to church, so does this mean that we now stop going to church, rather than being condemned for “mimicking” the Donald? Trump apparently enjoys McDonald’s, so is this family favourite now a forbidden destination? And, since Trump clearly plays golf, do we need to get our bag and clubs listed on Kijiji “for sale – cheap”? Don’t laugh on this issue, stupidity knows no limits.
The intolerance and hypocrisy in the attitudes of the Left are expanding geometrically. They constantly label Trump as Adolf Hitler, and his lieutenants as modern day Nazis, yet they viciously silence any opinions that do not match their own (something Hitler preached when he regularly told Germans that they needed to be obedient to his commands).
The Democrats have even gone as far as criticizing Trump’s children and grandchildren, an act so despicable as to border on evil. They appear determined, through their shrill condemnation, to turn every event and every issue into some scatter-brained proof of Trump’s megalomaniac tendencies.
What no one has yet mentioned, although I suspect it will be mentioned soon, is the fact that Democrats are so determined to destroy Trump they will bring a halt to all federal government legislation and activities, no matter how many millions of Americans are hurt in the process. The fact that no moderate Democrats are counselling their loud mouth associates to “calm down” will result in all Democrats being coated with the same paint – a paint composed of equal parts self-serving arrogance and ignorance. The Democrats have failed miserably in having their walking match their talking. They volunteer to condemn bullying in constant public service announcements, then turn around and display bullying skills worthy of a gold medal.
