The Gazette’s photographers captured another winning year in the Alberta Weekly Newspaper Association’s 2015 ATCO Photographic Awards.
Bryan Young, who started with the newspaper last spring, captured prizes in several categories, including second-place for his photo illustration entitled Isolation for a series on mental health, a third place for the sports action photo of a bull bearing down on a rodeo rider, and another third place for his human issue picture of a child grimacing as she is vaccinated.
Young also joined Gazette photographers April Bartlett and Chris Colbourne, taking second place for our multi-picture coverage of the fatal shooting of RCMP Const. David Wynn and the wounding of Auxiliary Const. Derek Bond a year ago.
Bartlett, a longtime Gazette photographer left to pursue other interests last year. Her human interest photo entitled Remembering Caelin won a first place award for capturing the sad aftermath of a teenage suicide.
