A teen driver is facing multiple charges after allegedly striking two police officers while attempting to flee a street-racing event in Ottawa.
Ontario Provincial Police say they spotted a large gathering of vehicles, including sport bikes, in Ottawa's west end on Friday evening.
Officers say one car was performing burnouts and fishtailing before several others engaged in drag racing.
When police moved in, one driver allegedly refused to stop and attempted to escape. In the process, the vehicle struck two officers. Neither sustained serious injuries.
A 19-year-old has been charged with multiple offences, including two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, flight from police, racing a motor vehicle, performing a stunt, and driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available.
Due to the charges, the person's licence has been suspended for 30 days and the vehicle impounded for 14 days.
