On the afternoon of November 2, Smoky Lake RCMP issued a statement about a fatal vehicle collision that took place the day before.
RCMP say in the mid-morning of November 1, officers received notification of a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 831, in the area of North Saskatchewan River Bridge.
The location is about five kilometres south of the community of Waskatenau on Highway 28, about 30 kilometres east of Smoky Lake. RCMP say a pickup truck with two occupants drove over a patch of ice on the road causing their vehicle to lose control and collide with an oncoming semi-truck. The two occupants of the truck, a 54-year-old male and a 51-year-old female, were declared deceased on scene. RCMP did not release details about injuries to the semi-truck driver.
Traffic along Hwy 831south of Waskatenau was affected for several hours following the deadly crash.
In the news release, Smoky Lake and Fort Saskatchewan RCMP were offering condolences to the families, friends and loved ones of these individuals involved.
"This is a profound loss of life for the family, and the community as a whole," states Cst. Cory Riggs, an Alberta RCMP Public Information Officer.
