The previously postponed trial of an Airdrie man accused of killing his neighbour got underway at the Court of King’s Bench in Calgary on Oct. 11.
Michael Anthony Roebuck, 61, was charged with first-degree murder following an incident on Sept. 7, 2019, when Roebuck allegedly shot his neighbour with pre-meditation just outside his home in southwest Airdrie.
The two men only lived 100 meters apart from each other on Canoe Close S.W. in Airdrie, according to the Crown.
The trial was originally supposed to take place last year. But on the first day of the trial, Roebuck's defense lawyer Kim Ross announced he was stepping down from the role after Roebuck refused to sign an agreed statement of facts. The "breakdown in source/client relationship," as Ross worded it, meant Roebuck had to seek new legal counsel.
Since then, Roebuck has been represented by Krysia Przepiorka.
Roebuck's trial is expected to continue until Oct. 25 at the Calgary Courts Centre in downtown Calgary.
