BRAGG CREEK—The RCMP Major Crimes Unit was on scene near the hamlet of Bragg Creek on Sunday (Dec. 6) after a body was discovered on a resident’s property.

RCMP received reports of a deceased woman at roughly 3 p.m. on Sunday and promptly responded.

“Our officers received a call of a deceased woman just off of Township Road 232 near Bragg Creek, Alberta. Upon arrival, our officers did locate a female and the details around her passing are currently being investigated,” said Cpl. Troy Savinkoff of the Cochrane RCMP.

Major Crimes was initially called in on Sunday evening to investigate the woman’s death, but the case has since been passed back to Cochrane RCMP as the cause of death has been deemed non-suspicious in nature.

“Typically we will call in our Major Crime Unit if, at the onset of the investigation, we might see some things that might concern us. Often times as that investigation unfolds, like in this case, that decision will change— It will become a non-suspicious death,” he said.

Savinkoff said that the exact cause of death has not been determined at this point, only that it has been ruled non-suspicious in nature.

Investigators are still trying to determine exactly how the woman ended up at the location where she passed.

“I believe there are certainly some ideas that investigators are working with, but that hasn’t concretely been determined yet,” Savnikoff said.

He noted that RCMP believes that they have correctly identified the victim and that the next of kin notification is still being put together.

Further details may be released if the public’s assistance is required, but Cochrane RCMP is not currently seeking the public’s assistance in this case.
