A 33-year-old man who was found unconscious and critically injured by RCMP near a property in Janvier on October 16 has died after a week in hospital. The death is being treated as a homicide.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say Rico Wilson Janvier succumbed to his injuries on October 24. He had been at Edmonton's University Hospital on life support.
Police say Wilson was found by Wood Buffalo RCMP in the early morning of October 2 near a property in the rural community about 180 kilometres north of Lac La Biche. They say he was unconscious and suffering life-threatening inquires. He was transported to a local airstrip by EMS and then airlifted by STARS Air Ambulance to the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray before being taken to the University Hospital.
The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit is in charge of the homicide investigation.
RCMP are offering no further details into the investigation at this time.
