Man charged with firearms offences in Okotoks shooting

Kaden Clouston, 26, of Okotoks is charged with discharging a firearm with intent and the victim is recovering in hospital, police said.

Numerous firearms charges have been laid following a shooting in Okotoks on May 1. 

Kaden Clouston, 26, of Okotoks, has been charged following an afternoon shooting at a home on Sheep River Court, RCMP said in a May 3 media release. 

Clouston is charged with: 

  • Discharge a firearm with intent 
  • Aggravated assault 
  • Careless use of a firearm 
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose 
  • Pointing a firearm 
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (x3) 
  • Possession of a restricted firearm without license (x2) 
  • Reckless discharge of a firearm 

Clouston was remanded into custody and will be appearing in Alberta Court of Justice in Okotoks on May 3 via CCTV, police said. 

The victim, a 53-year-old man, is recovering in hospital, police said.

The relationship between the victim and accused has not been confirmed by police, but a man who witnessed the aftermath of the shooting said the alleged shooter came out of the house where the victim lived and surrendered to police.
