Ron DeSantis won’t be getting any more Foothills whisky this year.
The Florida governor received a bottle of Highwood Distillery’s Sweet Sippin' Original Maple Whisky and a bottle of Eau Claire Distillery’s Canadian Rye Whisky after Alberta Premier Danielle Smith lost a bet when the Florida Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers to win the Stanley Cup last year.
Despite the same two teams battling it out for hockey supremacy again this spring, the two politicians are not renewing their friendly wager, Smith told the National Post last week.
Last year, Smith sent bottles from Highwood Distillery in High River and Eau Claire Distillery in Diamond Valley to Florida.
“I just received two bottles of Canadian whisky,” DeSantis said in a video on X, formerly Twitter, posted last July. “This looks really, really, good.”
DeSantis said the whiskies would be served at the governor’s mansion in Tallahassee, Florida.
If the Oilers had won the cup last year, DeSantis would have been required to send a bottle of Florida rum to Smith.
