Charges laid after Northern Alberta man chases woman with machete

Police in St. Paul received numerous 911 calls about "a female being chased through town by a male with a rifle."

ST. PAUL, Alta. - St. Paul RCMP arrested a man following numerous 911 calls being made regarding a woman being chased in town by a man with a weapon.

According to an RCMP media release sent out on Wednesday morning, the previous day on Oct. 4 at about 1 p.m., police received calls about "a female being chased through town by a male with a rifle."

Police located and arrested the man without incident and also located a bayonet type machete measuring three feet in length.

"Upon further investigation it was learned the male had struck the female several times with his hands, chased her with the machete, and threatened to kill her," reads the media release. The victim was located safe and unharmed.

Elmer Jackson, 43, a resident of Saddle Lake, Alta., has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, mischief under $5,000/damage to property and uttering threats against a person

Following a judicial hearing, Jackson was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 20, in St. Paul Provincial Court.
