BREAKING: Shane Getson a lock for a second term

With more than half of the polling stations reporting, UCP incumbent had more than a two-to-one lead over Oneil Carlier

LAC STE. ANNE-PARKLAND - UCP incumbent Shane Getson is all-but assured a second term and was on track to score a decisive win in a crowded field in the Lac Ste. Anne-Parkland riding, which includes the Hamlet of Busby, as well as Mayerthorpe, Onoway, the Alexander First Nation and Rich Valley.

With votes counted in 21 of the 34 polling stations as of 11 p.m., May 29, Getson, who sat as the deputy chair on the Standing Committee on the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund and is a Member of the Standing Committees on Resource Stewardship, had 7,757 votes and stood in front of former NDP MLA Oneil Carlier, who served as ag minister from 2015 to 2019, who had 3,120 votes.

Rounding out the field were Marilyn Burns, of the Advantage Party of Alberta, with 95 votes, Vanessa Diehl, of the Green Party of Alberta with 113 votes, and Janet Jabush, of the Alberta Party, who sat with 276 votes.

Locally, Busby residents voted overwhelmingly for Getson, casting 356 ballots his way, while Carlier picked up 95.
