The RCMP Major Crimes Unit was called in to investigate the death of Troy Pearce after the Mayerthorpe RCMP found the badly-injured Alberta Beach resident at the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation on Dec. 1.

MAYERTHORPE – A resident of the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation has been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of an Alberta Beach man last week.

According to an RCMP release, at approximately 8:20 a.m. on Dec. 1, Mayerthorpe RCMP received a firearms complaint originating outside of a residence on the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation near Glenevis.

Upon arriving at the location, the Mayerthorpe RCMP found a badly injured male, 53-year-old Troy Pearce of Alberta Beach. They tried to provide first aid, but Pearce succumbed to his injuries and was later pronounced deceased on scene by Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

The release states that the circumstances warranted the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit taking over the investigation. On Dec. 2, the unit charged a suspect, who was remanded into custody to speak to bail.

An autopsy has been scheduled with the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Dec. 6.

Emery Joseph Mustus, 29, is charged with second-degree murder. He was scheduled to attend St. Albert Provincial Court on Dec. 5.
