Travis Vader back in court Tuesday for McCann murder charges

BACK IN CUSTODY - Travis Vader has been rearrested following the Crown's decision to recommence charges in connection with the disappearance of Lyle and Marie McCann.

Travis Vader is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Edmonton Court of Queen’s Bench on Tuesday to answer to the double murder charges of St. Albert couple Lyle and Marie McCann.

Vader was rearrested on the charges by RCMP on Friday.

The 42-year-old was formally charged in the disappearance of the St. Albert couple nearly two years after he was named a suspect. The Crown stayed the charges in March with one year to bring them back to court.

Vader was acquitted on unrelated charges in October and was released after serving more than four years in custody.

The McCanns went missing in July 2010 on a trip to British Columbia to visit family. The burnt-out shell of the their motorhome was discovered at a campground near Edson a few days later.

“Today’s news means that we will now have the opportunity to learn more about the investigation into our parents’ death when this case comes to trial. Our goal now is to ensure the accused receives a fair trial,” said the McCann’s son Bret McCann in a statement.

Vader will be held in custody until he speaks to bail.
