Traffic nightmare

Traffic congestion in St. Albert is becoming a big problem. Instead of alleviating traffic, the turn on left arrow only is becoming a nightmare, and it shouldn’t if it had been properly thought out.

On Nov. 24, I was turning left from Bellerose on to St. Albert Trail. I lined up to turn left at 3:59 p.m. There were about eight cars ahead of me and I figured I might have to wait for the second left arrow. Well, about two or maybe three cars got through before the light turned red again.

So I waited for the second left arrow. Same thing. About two or maybe three cars got through on the left turning arrow! So I waited for the third left arrow and the same thing again. Two or maybe three cars got through, and when I looked behind me I could see that the line of cars behind me was endless!

But this time, I was damned if I would wait for a fourth light and I went through on the red. I got through at 4:12 p.m. A wait of 13 minutes! I am sure I will get a "red light" infraction, but, if I do, I will fight it in court.

Maybe this was just a blip, which will not happen again. I have made this turn many times and the left arrow remains lit for quite a while. But not on Nov. 24 at 4 p.m.
