Six players from the St. Albert Minor Hockey Association made the Team Brick line-up for the 23rd annual Super Novice Invitational Hockey Tournament.

Mike Benning, Taige Harding and Lleyton Moore will patrol the blueline and Ethan McKinley, Carter Savoie and Austin Spiridakis are forwards.

Team Brick will compete in division two against the Connecticut Yankees, Toronto Bulldogs, BC Junior Canucks, Montreal Ice Storm, Winnipeg Junior Jets and California 02s in the 14-team draw at the West Edmonton Mall Ice Palace.

The first game for Team Brick is Monday at 3:50 p.m. against the Canucks. The final is Sunday.

The peewee B St. Albert Angels were crowned champions of the Edmonton and area fastball league after a winning performance in the playoffs.

This weekend the Angels are going for gold at provincials in Lloydminster.

The Tampa Bay Lightning re-signed St. Albert minor hockey product Brendan Mikkelson to a one-year, one-way contract Tuesday.

Mikkelson, 25, played in 41 games with Tampa Bay last season, collecting one goal and three points to go with 13 penalty minutes.

The former bantam AAA Sabre and midget AAA Raider scored his first National Hockey League goal on March 17 against the St. Louis Blues.

The six-foot-three and 206 pound defenceman was acquired by Tampa Bay from the Calgary Flames on January 6 in exchange for Blair Jones.

Mikkelson was claimed off waivers by Calgary from the Anaheim Ducks on October 19, 2010. He was drafted by Anaheim in the second round, 31st overall, in 2005 and made his NHL debut with the Ducks on January 2, 2009 against the Philadelphia Flyers.

In 127 career NHL games with Tampa Bay, Calgary and Anaheim, Mikkelson recorded one goal, eight assists and 53 penalty minutes.

The 2007 Memorial Cup winner with the Vancouver Giants has played in 183 American Hockey League games with the Portland Pirates, Iowa Chops, Toronto Marlies and Abbotsford Heat.

The St. Albert Raiders Hockey Club has selected its head coaches for the upcoming season.

They are Sandro Pisani and Umberto Fiorillo (midget AAA Raiders), Phil Webb (midget AAA female Slash), Rick Thomson (midget AAA 15 Flyers), Chris Joseph (midget AA 15 Royals), Donovan Sugiyama (bantam AAA Sabres), Kevin Emes (bantam AAA female Raiders), Ryan Fedorak (bantam AA Blues) and Randy Pearce (bantam AA Bears).

The midget AA coaches for the Crusaders and Blues will be named at a later date.

The head coach of the bantam AA Comets will be filled by a parent coach from a pool of applicants.
