There’s money in cake as the Morinville Community Library is searching for a baker to design a custom cake for its 50th anniversary celebration on Saturday, Sept. 9.

The library is hosting a Cake Off competition on Saturday, May 6 and is inviting bakers from the entire region to participate.

First prize is a $150 contract to bake the anniversary cake. Second prize is a $50 gift card and third prize is a $25 gift card.

Five judges will decide the winning entry based on taste, design and relevance to the library’s landmark half-century theme.

The registration deadline is Monday, May 1. A $20 deposit is required to hold the spot and will be returned at the competition.

To register or obtain additional information call the library at 780-939-3292 or email: info@morinvillelibrary.ca or visit in person at 10125 – 100 Ave. Morinville.

Food is fuel, right? Right. But everyone delights in perfectly cooked food where flavours linger in the mouth for a palate-pleasing experience.

Metro Continuing Education has stepped up to offer a series of classes that range from summer grilling and slaying shellfish to baking cakes and prepping salads.

There’s even a parent-child class for building a picnic lunch. More family friendly classes include finessing the art of stir-frying or making Ukrainian borscht from a late summer harvest.

There’s a full range of different courses, both hands-on and demonstration, which range from $90 to $250.
