County break and enter and theft

Thieves made away with around $100,000 in goods.

Thieves targeted a home in the final stages of construction in the Pinnacle Ridge Estates subdivision in Sturgeon County. Suspects forced entry into the home and stole video, audio and household items totalling around $100,000.

The incident happened between 10 p.m. on Aug 24 and just before 10 a.m. on Aug. 25.

The RCMP K Division Forensic Identification Section attended the scene and is assisting with Morinville RCMP in the investigation.

This is the fourth reported theft in the Sturgeon Estates community over the summer. In early July a man reported that he was held at gunpoint while thieves ransacked his house in Pinnacle Ridge for goods. In another July incident, five armed men entered an open garage in a home in Riverstone and stole items from the homeowner’s bedroom. A third incident saw homeowners in Pinnacle Ridge lose $12,000 worth of musical instruments after thieves entered their home overnight.

Fraudulent transactions

One local business has been hit by thieves using special cards on debit machines.

On Aug. 23 and Aug. 25, a Morinville business was targeted and two male suspects used a fraudulent administration card to access the debit and credit machines to make a purchase.

RCMP is not sure where the card came from or if it is a universal card for all machines. They would like to warn business owners and cashiers to be on the lookout for persons typing more than four digits into the keypad.

Theft from motor vehicle

The Morinville RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance to identify suspects in relation to a rash of thefts from motor vehicles that occurred overnight on Aug. 20 and Aug. 21.

The thefts occurred in the areas of Grandin Drive and the Lakes in Morinville.

The thieves entered unlocked vehicles and took wallets, loose change, sunglasses cigarettes and vehicle documents.

Morinville RCMP is encouraging the public to be proactive to prevent vehicle thefts. The RCMP say to always make sure vehicles are locked and valuables removed, ensure adequate lighting around your home, beware of unfamiliar people in your neighbourhood, lock your home and shed even when you are home and report suspicious people and theft in a timely manner to the RCMP.
