The Sir George Simpson Triathlon celebrates its 25th anniversary this morning, starting at 9 a.m. at Grosvenor Pool.
Last year’s event consisted of 128 triathletes, racing solo or on a team of three, and 85 support student course marshals for the .3-kilometre swim, one-km bike and 1.2-km run.
Diana Magee, a longtime Simpson teacher, has been the driving force behind the triathlon for all 25 years. In 1995, Magee gave birth to a son the day after the triathlon and last year was on medical leave but still helped organize it with a former student teacher who was subbing for her.
