St. Albert’s Senior AAA Tigers will host the Red Deer Riggers at the Legion Memorial ballpark July 3.

The Tigers, who have a 7-7 record so far in this season’s Sunburst Baseball League action, will look to get back above the .500 mark.

They will also be looking for a little comeuppance against the Riggers, who laid down a 10-2 thrashing against the Tigers last Friday in a match that was also in St. Albert.

The Riggers are currently sitting slightly ahead of the Tigers with a 7-6 record, but the competition in the league is fairly tight with the first-place Sherwood Park Athletics sitting at 9-6, and the last-place Parkland White Sox sitting at 5-9. With a month left to go in league play, it’s still anyone’s season.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.

For those looking a little further down the road, July 10 to July 12 will see the Tigers host their annual Tigers Baseball Association tournament. For more information visit

St. Albert rugby fans will get the chance this Friday to see some of the best women players in Canada practising in advance of a Sunday match against England.

The Team Canada women are scheduled to face their opponents from across the pond on July 5 at Ellerslie Rugby Park in Edmonton, and the St. Albert Rugby Football Club has opened its doors to Team Canada for a practice.

They’re scheduled to be on the field from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., and members of the public can come watch the action.

The St. Albert Impact will face Juventus tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Riel Park in the men’s premier division of the Edmonton District Soccer Association.

The fourth-place Impact men will have to fend off the last-place Juventus, who are as yet winless this season.

St. Albert’s Senior B Miners and Junior B Tier 1 Crude have action at home in the coming days.

The Miners are scheduled to face the South Edmonton Warriors this Friday at 8 p.m. in the Go Auto arena at Servus Place. The 9-2 Miners are expected to dig up another victory against the 1-9 Warriors.

Meanwhile, the Crude have two matches this weekend, hosting the Manitoba Blizzard at Akinsdale Arena. They play Friday night at 8:30 p.m., then again on Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m.
