Atom football

The second half of the season for St. Albert’s three atom teams kicked off Sunday at Foote Field.

The Jaguars are 2-1-1 after beating the Beaumont Bears 35-21 in the Eskimo division.

Quarterback Zander Zelmer ran for three touchdowns and threw a scoring strike to Steele Doronoski. He also had a big day on defence along with Carter Hiscock.

The Jaguars led all the way and capped off the winning performance with a rushing TD by Darius Crandall, who showed up with only two plays remaining due to a flat tire on Anthony Henday Drive.

The Buccaneers settled for a 21-21 tie with Edmonton Seahawks White in the first Golden Bear division game since moving up after the retiring of teams.

Slotback Kodyn Hansen scored three rushing TDs and Theo and Fletcher Weirmer, a pair of defensive ends, made life miserable for the Seahawks in the last quarter to preserve the tie. Fletcher recorded four solo tackles and three of them for losses in the last drive for the Seahawks.

The Bucs are now 3-0-1 this season.

In the Wildcat division, a second-half comeback by the Vikings fell short in the 21-14 loss to Edmonton Seahawks Blue.

After spotting the Seahawks a 21-0 lead, Rayden Tutt and Zach Garrity reached the endzone for the 1-3 Vikings. Tutt almost knotted the score on the last play but was tackled just short of the goal line.
