Junior B exhibition for Merchants, Ackroyd golfing in Estonia and Alberta Fall Series results

Junior B exhibition

The last exhibition game for the St. Albert Merchants before the Capital Junior B Hockey League regular season begins is Sunday against the Sherwood Park Knights.

Faceoff is 8 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

The Merchants have eight defencemen, 15 forwards and three netminders remaining in camp after last weekend’s 4-3 loss in Sherwood Park and 8-6 win over the Edmonton Royals at Coronation Arena.

League play starts with the Sept. 21 home-opener against the Beverly Warriors at 8 p.m. as the Merchants unveil their 35th anniversary edition jerseys.

The pre-game tailgate festivities at 6:30 p.m. include the Original Joe’s charity food truck providing hamburgers and hotdogs to the first 150 fans in exchange for donations to the Diabetes Research Foundation of Canada.

The classic car winners at this year’s Rock’n August event in St. Albert will also be on display.

This season also marks the Kids in the Crowd initiative at all home games for the opportunity to participate in meet-and-greet autograph sessions with the players.

Minor Merch winners will also join the players during the singing of the national anthem and will receive a free pizza coupon.

Kids in the Crowd tickets are available at school offices in St. Albert for free child admission when accompanied by a paying adult ($5 for adults and $2 for seniors).
