Halloween should be door-to door only: writer

This year, I would like to ask parents of trick-or-treaters to allow their children to go door to door in their own neighbourhoods, rather than take them to the malls.

We look forward to seeing the children every year, and decorate our yard in anticipation. We buy treats galore and carve our pumpkins.

I am saddened when I see malls advertising visits to their shops for Halloween – that is not Halloween!

Halloween is visiting your neighbours, hearing children calling “Trick or Treat!” in the streets, and enjoying the sense of excitement and fun that the little ones bring.

So, this year, please, allow your children to go door-to-door. We are waiting!
