Power line plans revealed

St. Albert residents will have their first close look at a proposal to build a 500-kilovolt power line near River Lot 56 this Monday.

The line will follow one of four possible routes, said Epcor spokesperson Mike Long. One of those routes would have it pass within 395 metres of eastern Akinsdale, run through the Campbell Business Park and by the north side of River Lot 56. Local residents and developers have told the Gazette that they were concerned about this route’s effects on sight-lines and property values.

AltaLink and Epcor do not have a preference for any one of the routes, Long said, and are looking for the one with the smallest impact on residents. “We want to hear from people.”

Long hoped residents would come to Monday’s open house to learn about the four routes and to tell company representatives their concerns. An online map at the project’s website would help them compare the location of their homes to the line’s proposed route.

The open house runs from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the St. Albert Inn. More information on the project can be found at www.heartlandtransmission.ca.
