The Kinette Club’s 46th annual Christmas hamper drive is now on and members of the public are requested to make donations of non-perishable food and new, unwrapped gifts for children from toddler age to late teens. The volunteer-run program works to help families that are struggling with bills at this time of year.

Recipients are referred through local social service agencies. Last year, more than 240 families received hampers.

People can make their donations at the following locations: St. Albert Centre, St. Albert Place, both Save-On Foods stores, Ron Hodgson Chevrolet Buick GMC, St. Albert Business & Visitor Centre, Curves, ATB Financial, Servus Place and Bellerose, Paul Kane and St. Albert high schools. A Fill-a-Bus event (run with the generous support of St. Albert Transit and drivers with PW Transit) will take place on Dec. 6.

Monetary donations (by cash or cheque) can be dropped off at Fire Hall #3, 100 Giroux Road. Cheques can also be mailed to: Kinette Club of St. Albert, Christmas Hamper Program, PO Box 65064, Mission Hill Plaza, St. Albert, AB T8N 5Y3.

More volunteers would be greatly appreciated as well. For more information, please email stalbertkinettes@gmail.com or phone 780-702-9998

Morinville has its own Fill-a-Bus event to be held in conjunction with this Friday’s Lite Up the Nite Christmas Festival. Local residents are asked to help support the Morinville Food Bank Society and Knights of Columbus with this annual initiative. Please consider making donations of non-perishable food items, cleaning and personal care products, as well as cash donations.

The bus will first make its rounds tomorrow, starting at Chris & Tracey’s No Frills Store from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. before relocating to Sobeys from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

High demand items include canned meats, jams/jellies, bathroom and shower products, feminine hygiene products, jars of baby food, diapers and cleaning products. Juice boxes and packaged lunchbox snacks are also a great help.

More volunteers are requested for this program as well, and local businesses are asked to register as collection points. Please contact Town of Morinville Community Services at 780-939-7840 for more information.
