Grab and go

St. Albert Centre is taking a slice from the pizza industry. Konz Pizza in a Cone Canada, a franchise that specializes in cones stuffed with fresh pizza toppings, has plans to open in the centre’s food court within the next few weeks.

Kris Lawrie, founder and CEO of the franchise, says the restaurant began in Kelowna. It now has its sights on Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and Barcelona.

“This is an easier solution for people who are on the go,” Lawrie says. “You’re able to hold it in your hand, there’s no spills, no messes and it’s a slightly better option than a slice of pizza would be.”

The pizza in a cone also has less cheese and oils than a traditional pizza slice.

Lawrie decided to bring the business to St. Albert after partnering with Jackie Burkosky, who grew up in Spruce Grove.

Burkosky says she’s excited to bring the business closer to home.

“I’ve lived around St. Albert for a number of years, I really like the area. The mall is really growing and has gotten a lot of new stores and has gotten quite the facelift.”

Konz will be open the same hours as the mall, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. to start, but may eventually open earlier.
