The St. Albert Flyers take an eight-game unbeaten streak into their home game today against the Camrose Vikings in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.
Puck drop is 1:15 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
Sixteen wins and 33 points separate the Flyers and the last-place Vikings in the north conference.
The Flyers (18-5-5) share first place with the Lloydminster Rage (19-5-3) and the Spruce Grove Saints (18-7-4) are one point back of the co-leaders.
Sunday the Flyers face-off against the SSAC Bulldogs (16-8-3) at 6:40 p.m. at Callingwood Arena.
The St. Albert Slash wrap up their four-game homestand at Performance Arena this weekend in the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League.
The Slash host the Red Deer Chiefs today at 2:15 p.m. and the Calgary Flyers on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Slash (17-6-5) have second place locked up in the north division with four games left in the regular season. In the south division Red Deer (20-6-2) is tied for top spot and the Flyers (15-11-2) are third.
The Slash are 4-1-1 since reaching the semifinals at the Mac’s tournament in Calgary.
Next weekend the Slash complete league play on the road against the Calgary Bruins (12-10-5) and Highwood Raiders (3-20-5). Playoffs start Feb. 17.
Both St. Albert teams in the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League have their next games scheduled at Mark Messier Arena.
Tonight the Blues play the SISEC Selects at 8:30 p.m. and Monday the Crusaders tangle with the Sturgeon Hockey Club Mustangs at 8:15 p.m.
The Blues (19-4-5) lead the central red division and are ranked second overall in the 26-team league. The 2011 playoff finalists and provincial silver medallists are 6-1-1 in their last eight games.
The Crusaders (12-12-4) are one point out of third place in the west blue division after posting a 2-2-3 record in January.
Last week the Crusaders and Blues battled to a 6-6 draw.
Jordan MacPhee of the Crusaders scored twice, including the equalizer with less than six minutes left in the game. Erik Halldorson, Nathan Barr, Luke Prodan and Blake Bosch also potted goals and Ben Cretain added three assists.
Jared Kwasney tallied twice in the third period as the Blues battled back from deficits of 3-0 in the first period and 5-4 after two periods. Shane Bowzaylo, Barrett Belland, Blair Macuch and Casey Reid were the other marksmen.
The Blues scored four power-play goals and the Crusaders converted two chances with the man advantage.
Crusaders netminder Sam Holick faced 57 shots. Kyle Smart and Mitchell Vigneau split time in the Blues net.
