A Sturgeon County landscaper is once again challenging incumbent Wayne Bokenfohr for the title of Division 3 councillor.
Matthew McLennan filed to run for Division 3 councillor in the 2021 Sturgeon County election last week.
The owner of the Labour Neighbour landscaping company and a seven-year resident of Division 3, McLennan last ran in the 2017 election, where he came in third behind Ken McGillis and Coun. Wayne Bokenfohr.
“I don’t feel things have changed a great deal from when I ran four years ago,” McLennan said, when asked why he decided to run again.
While he acknowledged that the county’s broadband pilot had started, McLennan said the county should have had it rolling two years ago, as residents sorely needed broadband access during the pandemic. He said he would work with federal and provincial officials to improve broadband access if elected.
McLennan said he would also re-evaluate and address the county’s road and drainage priorities, if elected.
A member of the county’s transportation advisory and assessment review boards, McLennan said his business experience and background in event organization give him the experience needed to be an effective councillor.
